We were represented last week at the opening of a new Waitrose store by His Royal Highness Prince Charles just round the corner from our factory in Poundbury. Being just a stone’s throw away from our chocolate factory you might imagine that you can also buy a selection of House of Dorchester chocolates there and you would be quite right. At House of Dorchester we are no strangers to Prince Charles as our factory, which he opened in 1998 is on the same Duchy of Cornwall’s land. We also manufacture Duchy Originals chocolates. Prince Charles was accompanied by Mark Price, Waitrose Managing Director.

The Weymouth Pavilion has reached the milestone of 50 years in the entertainment business and to celebrate they are presenting two shows; the first will be a production by the ‘players’ of Weymouth on 6th November and the second is an all Dorset cast in the Dorset Variety Show. The Pavilion is a really important landmark for the local area and we are helping them to celebrate by giving every person that attends the shows some House of Dorchester Chocolate to enjoy – what could be better than a wonderful production at the historic pavilion theatre with a piece of perfect chocolate to enjoy whilst you’re watching!

At the chocolate factory we are all gearing up for Dorset Food Week, this year it is begin held on 23rd – 31st October. Now in its 10th year, there will be events taking place all over the county from tasting’s and markets to live demonstrations and farm tours – it’s a chance to learn lots about a great food producing county. To celebrate we are holding a tasting at our factory shop in Poundbury – this tasting is extra special though. As well as some of our popular ranges, we will be offering people a chance to taste some of our new product ideas, direct from the development kitchen only a few feet away. We want to give people a chance to have their say on what we should put into production – so for the chance to try some never before seen chocolate – please come along!

On Saturday Jeremy visited the beautiful Cothay Manor Gardens near Wellington, Somerset (not just for a nice day out!). He was there to help run our stall at the Garden, Plant and Food Fair in aid of St Margaret’s Hospice.
The event was really well attended and the weather was fine, meaning everyone got to view the gardens in their full splendour. The chocolates sold really well, apparently the new Caramel Connoisseur Collection was very popular and it was great to help raise a lot of money for a really worthwhile cause.
Before all this Jeremy was in Wincanton judging for the 2010 Great Taste Awards. Each year the judges blind taste almost 5000 speciality food and drink products from over 1100 producers. It’s a hard job but somebody has to do it!
Whilst Jeremy has been exercising his taste buds, Laura Treviss and Sarah Downing from our chocolate factory have been in training for the Dorchester Race for Life event. Together they raised £210 for Cancer Research UK by running 5k with around 2500 other women. I’d like to say a big well done from everyone here at House of Dorchester …….so……… well done!
